Wine Spectator’s 2009 #3

In lieu of recent château tour to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, I wanted tell about a fantastic vineyard that has a history of excellence in this region. Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. A blend from this winery received the #3 spot in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2009.

Brothers Daniel and Frédéric Brunier farm the domaine’s 173 acres of vineyards located in the appellation’s famed La Crau sector. This red wine is a blend of 65 percent Grenache with 15 percent each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, plus a dash of Cinsault, Clairette and other varieties, all sourced from vines averaging 60 years of age.
